DIYnamo is a new Social Enterprise designed to help you with all your DIY and garden maintenance needs. Providing an affordable, friendly, and experienced service to everyone in Caithness, the DIYnamo team is ready to help you with any problem you may face.
DIYnamo's aim is to ensure everybody in Caithness has access to a general maintenance team they can afford and trust. By working for the general public and bidding competitively for contracted tender work, DIYnamo can offer subsidised rates for older citizens who need the most help in up-keeping their property.
By hiring DIYnamo you will be ensuring that pensioners who need the most help pay the least for it.
What DIYnamo Offers
The DIYnamo team can do virtually any job around your home and garden. Below is a list of just some of the great work they performed in Wick during the pilot-run of the project:
- Wash windows
- Cut grass
- Wallpapering rooms
- Build and repair fences
- Powerwash paths
- Gardening work
The DIYnamo TeamThe DIYnamo team is run by project Co-ordinator Fraser Malcolm who has 23 years of experience in general maintenance having worked as Wick High School's janitor and also working as a self employed DIY handyman for 20 years.
"I've been DIY minded since I was very young and have been brought up doing joinery and gardening," Fraser said. "While self employed I did a lot of painting and decorating, worked on patios, and lots of other jobs. I found myself doing virtually every job at some point.”
Helping Fraser is Andrew Edwards and Martin John, two local men who were long term unemployed before being taken on by DIYnamo through the Future Job Fund. Both Andrew and Martin are delighted to be employed by DIYnamo and are learning lots.
Andrew: "DIYnamo has been really good experience for me and it’s a great job. Hopefully it will take-off as a business and I can keep working. It’s also brilliant to be helping older people in the community.”
Martin: "“I enjoy working with DIYnamo and it’s teaching me a lot. I’m gaining experience painting and decorating, and my first few days on the job I was even building fences for local residents. We get to help a lot of people working with DIYnamo.”
A Social Enterprise Working for the Community
Able to carry-out work for all of Caithness’ residents, DIYnamo has also been fortunate in winning a contract with Albyn Housing Society.
DIYnamo was created with a start-up grant from the Scottish Government’s Wider Role Fund but now operates as a social enterprise generating its own income in order to continue and provide subsidised rates for the elderly.ContactYou can contact DIYnamo for more information or to receive a quote by contacting the Pulteneytown People's Project on (01955) 608530.
